Annual Virtual Reality Cinema Minifest: Social Change and Sonics
Niagara, K3 Open Space, Ground Floor
It's time for Malmö University's Annual Virtual Reality (VR) Cinema minifest. Throughout the day visitors will be able to enjoy a curated programme of immersive VR experiences both from the creative industry and output of Malmö University Research Projects.
The minifest will host, among others, the following VR installations:
- VR documentary Surfacing / Affiorare: A 360 immersive fairy tale, set amongst mothers and children who live in prison. A magical journey in their everyday life, with animations of their surreal memories of the past and dreams for the future, created through a collaborative process.
- VR experience The Choice VR: An intimate and emotional experience, inviting the audience to participate in a deeply moving conversation with a woman sharing her personal story about abortion. VR offers unique narrative possibilities and creates a much more direct relationship that no other form of art can build.
The minifest will also showcase co-created VR360 films from the research environment ‘Refugee Migration and Cities: Social Institutions, Political Governance and Integration in Jordan, Turkey and Sweden’ (SIPGI).
Everyone is welcome to drop in during the day at the K3 Open Space on the ground floor of Niagara.
We are organizing two exciting expert panels taking place at Orkanen. They will discuss VR and sound, spatial sound and immersive environments, and how VR can be used for social change. The directors of Affiorare, Dr. Rosella Schillaci, and The Choice VR, Joanne Popińska, will participate in the discussions along with researchers, sound artists and others.
