The Czech composer Antonín Dvořák lived in New York for several years in the late nineteenth century, drawing inspiration from indigenous music and spirituals, and writing one of his most celebrated pieces: From the New World (Symphony No. 9).
Malmö Academic Orchestra will take on this remarkable piece, led by Ukrainian conductor Ivan Ostapovych. The renowned and award-winning conductor has worked with, among others, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, The Moscow Philharmonic and the Symphony Orchestra of the Ivano-Frankivsk Philharmonic. He is one of the founders of the Ukraine Festival Orchestra and is also artistic director of Lviv Organ Hall.
We want to make our concerts accessible to as broad of an audience as possible while encouraging discussion about the cost of culture and who should pay for it. That’s why we’ve decided that our concert goers get to choose how much they want to pay. If you buy your ticket at the door, you can pick any price you like; if you buy a ticket at Kulturcentralen, you will have a few different price categories to choose from.
