Janice Swan (she/her) is a PhD candidate at the department of Global Political Studies with a background in Environmental Studies and Sustainability Science (Lund University) and Development Studies (University of Ottawa). Her current research investigates how the Manosphere – a transnational network of anti-feminist online communities – shapes young men’s environmental subjectivities and attitudes towards the climate crisis. It explores the intersection of climate obstruction and misogyny within these digital spaces, paying particular attention to the ways in which gendered rhetoric and environmental discourses are co-produced. Examined through a political ecology lens anchored in queer feminist epistemologies, her study aims to trace the evolution of climate denialist thought across the various Manosphere subcommunities all while reframing feminist praxis as a vital counterforce to far-right radicalization.

Her previous research has dealt with the nexus of patriarchial masculinities and far-right climate obstruction in Canada, as well as discursive resistance to sustainable food system transformations in Nordic countries. She is also particularly interested in social movement theory and postgrowth sustainability pathways.
