The data driven systems industrial doctoral school (DDS) started 2018 and ended 2022. It's focus was on the challenges of automated and semi-automated data-driven systems. It aimed to enable employees at companies to gain scientific skills and knowledge which benefit the company while, at the same time, complete a licentiate degree in Computer Science from Malmö University.

About the doctoral school

Automated and semi-automated processing of digital information is of growing concern and interest for society and industry alike. The emerging IoT paradigm facilitates real world data collection while advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) promises to automate or support decision-making on the basis of such data.

For such systems to be successful, however, in many cases they need to offer a good balance between automation and human intervention. The data driven systems industrial doctoral school (DDS) is a 36-month project focussed on the challenges of automated and semi-automated data-driven systems.

It aims to enable employees at companies to gain scientific skills and knowledge which benefit the company while, at the same time, complete a licentiate degree in Computer Science from Malmö University.The doctoral students spend 67 per cent of their time on their graduate studies and the remaining time on company tasks.

DDS establishes an academic educational environment, including courses and discussion fora, for a set of licentiate projects, which all address the challenge of automated and semi-automated data driven systems from different perspectives and research fields, in particular:

  • context-aware systems

All doctoral students follows the same curriculum and study following courses:

  • Academic writing and publishing, 5 ECTS
  • Research methods in Computer Science, 5 ECTS
  • Current topics in Data Science, 5 ECTS
  • IOTAP seminar series, 5 ECTS
  • Individual reading course, 5 ECTS
