About the project

Together we build better for a good indoor environment. The National Board of Housing, Building and Planning has been assigned to strengthen, during the years 2018-2021, work to ensure that new and existing buildings are safe and have a good indoor environment. The National Board of Housing, Building and Planning will collect, quality assure and disseminate information about buildings' indoor environment.

The purpose of the assignment is to raise awareness of the deficiencies in the indoor environment of buildings, common causes of the deficiencies and how they can be avoided or corrected.

People in Sweden spend most of their time indoors and therefore the quality of the indoor environment is of great importance for their health and well-being. Deficiencies in the indoor environment can cause widespread health problems, which in turn can lead to significant socio-economic costs. In order to promote a good indoor environment and counteract socio-economic costs as a result of widespread health problems, there is reason to improve and develop new knowledge in the area.

The National Board of Housing, Building and Planning will final report the assignment to the Government Offices of the Ministry of Finance) on December 31, 2021. Thereafter, the assignment will be transferred to the National Board of Housing, Building and Planning’s regular operations. The National Board of Housing, Building and Planning shall maintain a continuous dialogue with relevant actors such as construction companies, manufacturers of construction products, industry organizations, authorities and others during the execution of the assignment.
