Project description

Do we inherit chronic pain from our parents? The overall goal of this project is to determine risk factors, development and spread of pain in the body and to offspring. Orofacial pain is a common cause of chronic pain with a treatment need of 10-15% among dental patients, posing a substantial health problem and affecting women more than men. This collaborative project is based on a unique combination of 4 databases on 3 linked generations in Malmö. Skåne differs from other parts in Sweden with a high proportion of the population born outside Sweden, a group that has been shown to have higher prevalence of orofacial pain. The results will have immediate impact on dental care program with benefits for the region’s population, society and public dental health.
