About the project

The project aims at investigating the importance of endogenous low molecular weight (LMW) compounds for wound healing progression and subsequent post healing skin structure, emphasizing also on barrier recovery at the molecular level. It further more addresses the potential use of these LMW compounds as biomarkers for diagnostic purpose.

The main objective is to gain further understanding on how to improve diagnosis and treatment of human wounds. We approach these questions in a project team with expertise covering the whole range from clinical pharmacology to physicochemical molecular understanding and also by using a multi-technique approach such as analytical - LC-MS, MALDI; biophysical – X-ray diffraction, solid state NMR, IR spectroscopy and state of the art imaging techniques like advanced confocal laser scanning microscopy and synchrotron X – ray tomography.
