About the project
Making sense of context data from IoT technologies, and how this affects actions taken in response to this by human or machine agents, is the main goal to this project. This includes identifying and understanding use patterns, anomaly detection, and indicators ranging from the easily glanceable to more complex. Making sense of interaction design is the secondary goal of this project to explore, where we particularly investigate transparency enhancing tools and trust.
The project explores these goals through studies of applied use of IoT. For instance, this includes how everyday users make sense of wearable technology and how their actions are affected by this sensemaking. We also cover low-level system-to-system interaction that may be automated to minimize the need for human interaction and thus instead run primarily in the background.
We are open to additional external collaboration partners and are flexible to the interest and ongoing projects of our collaborating partners. We have a long-standing collaboration with the Lund parts of Sony Network Communications Europe and Sony Corporate, relating to technology-driven R&D as well as product applications of IoT.
Within smart health we focus on (1) validating the use of consumer technology for standardized health tests relevant to clinicians, (2) developing a citizen science platform for users willing to donate personal data for clinical research, and (3) systematically testing user experience designs such as transparency enhancing tools to promote trust, long-term engagement, as well as willingness to change or adhere to treatment plans. The current work has established involvement nationally and internationally from clinicians conducting research in cardiology, pulmonology, and neurology.
Within smart offices, we focus on identifying behavior patterns from office space use to predict future utilization, anomaly detection, as well as key factors for successful design of office spaces. This includes benefits for employees, companies, and facility owners.
