The Forum for Social Innovation Sweden is a national knowledge and collaboration platform for social innovation and social entrepreneurship in Sweden, based at Malmö University. Together with academia, business and public and other creative actors, we build a capacity for innovation that meets societal challenges.

Social Innovation Foresight is a digital conversation series where thought-leaders, big thinkers and pioneers from around the world reflect on the challenges we face, the opportunities we have not yet realised and what is around the corner. Foresight gives you an opportunity to listen to and watch innovative and creative keynotes and talks that stimulate new ideas and develop knowledge.

Researchers at Malmö University collaborate with actors from all sectors of society. The aim is to create mutual added value for the University, participating parties and society. As a higher education institution, Malmö University contributes with research-based knowledge and education. The videos are in Swedish but English subtitles can be added.

Muvah is a knowledge alliance between the city of Malmö and Malmö University modeled after the University of East London. The goal is, among other things, to increase the entry of Malmö youth into the labor market and to get more young people from underrepresented groups to choose higher education.

The Institute for Sustainable Urban Development (ISU) is a meeting place and an arena for knowledge exchange. The institute is a collaboration platform between the city of Malmö and Malmö University that works to develop Malmö into a leading knowledge city in sustainable urban development — ecologically, socially and culturally.

The Research and Innovation Council of Skåne (FIRS) is a collaboration between stakeholders that are willing and able to drive the development of innovation in Skåne. The aim is to act quickly and smart to benefit from arising opportunities and address joint challenges. FIRS acts to make Skåne a world-leading knowledge and innovation region that drives sustainable growth.

K2 – Sweden's national centre for research and education on public transport

K2 is Sweden's national Centre for Research and Education on Public Transport. This is where academia, the public sector and industry meet to discuss and develop the role of public transport in Sweden.
We investigate how public transport can contribute to attractive and sustainable metropolitan areas of the future. We educate members of the public transport sector and inform decision-makers to facilitate an educated debate on public transport.

K2 is operated and funded by Lund University, Malmö University and VTI in collaboration with Region Stockholm, Region Västra Götaland and Region Skåne. We are supported by Vinnova, Formas and the Swedish Transport Administration.

Cluster organisations and networks

By actively participating in collaborations, the University pushes the development of knowledge forward in a number of relevant fields. A selection is presented below.

UNIC is an alliance of ten universities in post-industrial cities. It is part of European Universities, an EU initiative to create new collaborations for higher education institutions and exchange opportunities for staff and students. The membership gives the University the opportunity to strengthen international collaboration in research and education and to deepen its collaboration with the city of Malmö.

Malmö University represents Sweden in a network for the most innovative higher education institutions in Europe, the European Network of Innovative Higher Education Institutions (ENIHEI). The mission includes contributing ideas on how higher education can lead to increased innovation power and being a pioneer when it comes to implementing the EU's new innovation agenda.

Sustainable Business Hub is a membership network that provides a platform where innovation, development and business for sustainable solutions can be realised. With members from business, the municipality and academia, the network encourages contact and collaboration.

In the Mobile Heights network, Malmö University collaborates with, among others, Ericsson, Sony Mobile, Telia as well as Lund and Blekinge universities to promote innovation and growth in the areas of Connected Health and Connected cities.

Medicon Valley Alliance is an umbrella organization within Life Science with the aim of strengthening cooperation between universities, businesses and regions in Sweden and Denmark.

Together with a number of organisations, the University promotes innovation and growth in the digitalisation industry in southern Sweden.

Collaborative projects

We collaborate with the private, public and non-profit sectors, as well as citizens, to develop society and knowledge in various fields. This is to develop the University's collaboration with other actors through new knowledge, methods and working methods.

We also participate in other projects with other actors. Here are a few good examples.

Cities Changing Diabetes is a global partnership programme initiated by Novo Nordisk (a global healthcare company) in response to the dramatic increase in diabetes worldwide. Malmö is the first Swedish city to join the global collaborative project to find solutions to the problems of increased overweight, obesity and diabetes locally.

Culture plays an important role at Malmö University. It contributes to critical thinking, new perspectives and innovative questions that strengthen the quality of our research and education. In several of our courses, artistic methods are used and we research artistic and cultural practices. The University offers extensive music activities and hosts an art association, and we collaborate with a number of important cultural institutions, both regionally and internationally.

Student city Malmö is a collaborative project between the city of Malmö and Malmö University together with the Malmö Student Union and the Odontological Student Union. The project's vision is to work to make Malmö Sweden's best student city.
