Banned Books Week Sweden is organised by the Dawit Isaak Library in Malmö and Swedish PEN. It is a way of keeping the debate on freedom of expression alive and a powerful defence of everyone’s right to read. In collaboration with the Dawit Isaak Library, Malmö University is marking Banned Books Week with a book exhibition, seminars and study visits.

Exhibition of banned books

Banned and censored fantasy (fantasy, science fiction, dystopias and horror) in collaboration with Swedish PEN. On display all week at the Orkanen Library.

Lecture: “Libraries and Democracy”

with Fredrik Hanell, Associate Professor of Library and Information Science at Linnaeus University

Seminar: “Reading a forbidden text: The Handmaid’s Tale”

with Mia Dahlqvist from the Dawit Isaak Library and Morgan Deumier, PhD student in Learning and Society. The seminar will be held in English.
