Access to course materials in Legimus is changing
in Legimus is changing
The Swedish Agency for Accessible Media (MTM), which is responsible for Legimus, will no longer produce all compulsory course materials as audiobooks. This means that the course materials you need may not be available on Legimus during the autumn term.
MTM cites new legislation, which means that more e-books will meet accessibility requirements. Consequently, MTM no longer produces audiobooks if the book is already available as an e-book.
At present, the library cannot purchase all course books as e-books due to high costs and restrictive licence terms.
What does this mean for you as a student?
- The library is no longer permitted to commission audiobook recordings of compulsory course literature if the book is available to borrow, buy or rent as an e-book.
- Some audiobooks that you previously found in Legimus may have been removed.
- E-books that the library are unable to buy you will need to buy or rent yourself. There are various services where you can do this, for example:
If the book is not available in Legimus, do the following:
- Search in Libsearch to check whether the book is available as an e-book. If the e-book is available in Libsearch, you should use that first. To listen to e-books, you can use the e-book’s own playback function or the Thorium reading programme.
Search in Libsearch
Download the Thorium programme - If you cannot find the book as an e-book, please get in touch with us, and we will investigate whether the e-book can be purchased for the library or whether the book can be recorded as an audiobook by MTM.
Email us at talbok@mau.se
Other things you can do to find your course books:
- Ask your lecturer if it’s OK to use an earlier edition of the course book. Older editions may be available in Legimus.
- The library can still order an audiobook if the e-book you’re trying to read or listen to isn’t sufficiently accessible to you. Please contact us by email at talbok@mau.se.
We hope that better solutions will become available in the future, but at the moment the situation means that certain books are not available either as audiobooks in Legimus or as e-books via the library.
