Library card

Everyone who is 18 years or older is welcome to get a library card.

To obtain a library card and borrow books, as well as to use the computers in the library, you must be at least 18 years old.

Students and Staff

If you are a student or a member of staff, you can use your multicard as a library card.

General Public

If you are not a student with us, the easiest way to get a library card is to apply online. Simply fill in the form below and collect your card from one of our libraries within 21 days. Please bring valid identification. Once your application has been submitted, you may reserve books (note that you cannot reserve books that are currently available).

If you would prefer to apply for a library card in person, you are welcome to visit any of our libraries. Just speak to the information desk and we’ll assist you. Don’t forget to bring a valid ID.

About PIN Codes

You will need a PIN code, a four-digit number, to:

  • borrow items using the library’s self-service machines,
  • check and update your library account details,
  • place requests and renew loans.

If you don’t have a PIN code or have forgotten it, you can request a new one online:

If you already have a multicard, your PIN code will be transferred automatically.

Loans, Renewals and Late Fees

On the "My Loans" page, you can view your current loans and reservations, renew books, and pay overdue fees. You can also change your PIN code and update your contact details. Log in with your card number/personal identity number and PIN code.

Summary of Library Rules:

  • You may borrow books and films for 3 weeks.
  • Obligatory course literature is always available in one copy that you can read at the library (sometimes this copy is an e-book). These are labelled “EJ HEMLÅN” (Library use only).
  • Books are automatically renewed if they are not requested by someone else – up to 10 times for students and the general public, and up to 20 times for staff. You may also renew manually; if you do, these renewals will still count towards the maximum of 10 or 20 renewals.
  • We notify you by email which of your books need to be returned and which have been renewed. This email is sent three days before the due date.
  • Occasionally, our emails end up in junk mail folders. Always check due dates by logging in to My Loans. Please note that even if the email does not reach you, it is always your responsibility to renew or return items on time.
  • A late fee is charged if you return books after the due date. The fee is SEK 10 per book and per day.
  • If your books have not been renewed due to requests or a maximum number of renewals, the library sends out an invoice after about a month. The invoice fee is SEK 400/book, where SEK 200/book is an administration fee that is paid even if you return the book.
  • Fees can be paid via bankgiro once you have logged in to your library account (My Loans). You can also pay by card at the library’s information desk.
  • If your loan cannot be renewed due to reservations or having reached the maximum number of renewals, the library will send an invoice after about one month. The invoice fee is SEK 400 per book, of which SEK 200 is an administration fee that must be paid even if the book is later returned.

Returning books

You can return books during the Libraries' opening hours. You can return books at any of our three libraries, regardless of which library you borrowed the book from.

See "Opening hours and contacts" for current opening hours

You can also return what you have borrowed by post. You pay the postage for returns yourself and are responsible for the books until they reach the library.
