Jonas Becktor conducts research into advanced techniques for the reconstruction and augmentation of jawbone tissue. When both teeth and jawbone have been lost, it is necessary to rebuild the bone tissue in order to provide support for dental implants. These implants make it possible to replace the missing teeth with fixed crowns or bridges. Rather than transplanting bone from other parts of the body, Jonas Becktor has developed methods for harvesting bone from the jaw itself.

Eva Elmerstig´s research on sexual and reproductive health, focuses on how illness and life circumstances affect people’s sexuality, wellbeing and relationships. This may include how childbirth or the menopause affect a person’s sex life, but also illnesses such as cancer, medication or surgery. Her research is interdisciplinary, with psychological and social perspectives being just as important as the medical ones.

Helena Fransson's research focuses on tooth survival following root canal treatment. The issue is complex and involves not only financial considerations but also the dentist’s willingness to be responsive to the patient’s wishes. Nor can it be said that a particular treatment is suitable for everyone. Helena Fransson has therefore carried out model analyses of thousands of treatments to compare the outcomes of different methods. Ultimately, it is a question of which type of treatment offers the best value for money and yields the best possible outcome for the patient.

Andreas Jacobsson's research focuses on security and personal privacy in smart homes. This field of research is based on the Internet of Things, where the internet is not only found in phones and computers, but also in doorbells, fridges, thermostats, alarm systems and vacuum cleaners. Sensors in these units collect data and send it to cloud services operated by global companies. Research into security and privacy in smart homes focuses on external threats, but Andreas Jacobsson is also interested in what happens when the threat comes from within, in the form of domestic violence.

Patrik Lundell's research studies media in the past. The fact that we are flooded with information today does not mean that media is something new; it is simply different. It can range from printed matter and pulpits, through letters and mass meetings, to bronze statues and gravestones. Sometimes a beer bottle is a more important source than a daily newspaper. Through this perspective, we can understand the media and how they are interconnected, but also how different areas of society and phenomena have always been shaped by the specific media conditions of their time.

Research
Torkel Richert conducts research into social vulnerability and risks faced by people who use drugs. He examines how their situation and access to support are affected by social inequality and prejudice, but also by the objectives of Sweden’s restrictive drug policy. A key question for Torkel Richert is how, through a change in perspective and better harm-reduction measures, we can improve the situation of drug users and reduce the number of deaths.
