Presentation

I hold a PhD in Religious Studies and am a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Society, Culture and Identity at Malmö University. My research is on contemporary esotericism and new religious movements, especially ritual magic and Wicca. My central question is how religion is taught and learned. I study how knowledge, expertise and tradition are passed on through initiation, ritual and embodied practice, and what this means for how religious communities endure. My approach is primarily ethnographic.

I received my PhD from Lund University in 2023 with the dissertation Arts and Crafts Divine: Teaching and Learning Ritual Magic in Sodalitas Rosae Crucis. It received the Dissertation of the Year award from the Society of Letters in Lund (Vetenskapssocieteten i Lund) and has been accepted for publication by Oxford University Press.

From 2026 to 2028, I am leading the project Wicca in Scandinavia: An Ethnography of Teaching and Learning Religion, an international postdoctoral project funded by the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet). I co-coordinate EsoDid (Esotericism and Didactics), a research network within the European Society for the Study of Western Esotericism (ESSWE).
