Presentation

I am an art historian focused on art and visual culture during the twentieth and twenty-first century. I am particularly interested in how art and other image practices relate to broader societal questions and concerns, paying specific attention to photographic images and image practices.

A long-standing interest has been the notion of the archive in contemporary art, which I examined in numerous articles and conference papers as well as in the monographic study Art + Archive: Understanding the Archival Turn in Contemporary Art, published in 2022 by Manchester University Press.

Between 2019 and 2023 I worked on a project that investigates how photographic motion studies have been activated in different discourses and visual culture since the late-nineteenth century. The resarch was primarily financed by the Swedish Research Council's International Postdoc grant. As part of this work, I was based in Berlin for most of 2023 as an Affiliate Fellow at the ICI, Kulturlabor, Institute for Cultural Inquiry.

I am currently developing a large research project centred on the cloud as a visual and theoretical motif in contemporary art.

Beginning in February 2024, I am based in Malmö, teaching at K3 at the Batchelor program in Visual Communication as well as a number of freestanding courses.
