Aim

The aim of the course is to provide an introduction and overview of the theory and applications of synchrotron and neutron radiation in natural science and engineering. This includes the physical principles behind the generation of synchrotron and neutron radiation, the layout and major components of these facilities, the principles of the main characterization techniques available at these facilities, and recent research examples from different fields that make use of them. The course is intended to prepare doctoral students to propose and conduct research that involves these and other large-scale user facilities. The content is presented in a qualitative manner suitable for doctoral students across all areas of natural science and engineering.
