RESEARCH. Around 200 participants gathered at Studio in Malmö on Wednesday 21 October for the annual research conference organised by the Department of Biomedical Science (BMV). Bringing together internationally renowned researchers, industry representatives and Master's students, the event provided a valuable forum for scientific exchange, networking and strengthening research collaborations.

Held annually since 2005, the conference has become an established meeting place for researchers and companies working in the biomedical sciences. At least 20 per cent of participants come from industry, many of whom are already involved in collaborative research projects with the department.

– It has become something of a tradition within the industry that this is the place to be in October. The conference provides an opportunity both to learn about the latest research and to meet people with whom we already collaborate or hope to develop new partnerships, says Sebastian Björklund from the Department of Biomedical Science.

The programme featured researchers from institutions including Karolinska Institutet, the University of Copenhagen and Amsterdam University Medical Centre. The department's Master's students were also invited, giving them the opportunity to engage with internationally recognised researchers and representatives from industry.

However, the significance of the conference extends well beyond the presentations. Equally important are the conversations during breaks, where new ideas can emerge and existing research collaborations can be strengthened.

– Although each conference has a particular scientific focus, networking is a central part of the day. By organising the conference every year, we maintain continuity in our relationships with both academic colleagues and industry partners. It has become a natural meeting place and a real highlight of the year, says Sebastian Björklund.
