Malmö University announces four new research centres
A total of 14 applications were submitted in connection with the call for base funding for research centres. The applications have been reviewed by external and impartial experts during the spring.
From 2025 to 2030, Malmö University will be home to as many as eight research centres. Until now, there have been five, but after a call for proposals worth 180 million SEK, four new centres have been added, and one has been discontinued.
"It will be extremely interesting and fun to follow the activities of the new and already established centres. There's also hope that the research initiatives that will not receive base funding can continue in some form," says Malin Ideland, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Doctoral Education at Malmö University.
"All applications have shown that our University's researchers possess both creativity and a willingness to develop and collaborate across faculty borders. They have also demonstrated that socially relevant, high-quality and internationally prominent research is taking place across the entire University," Malin Ideland continues.
It will be extremely interesting and fun to follow the activities of the new and already established centres.
Malin Ideland, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Doctoral Education at Malmö University
"No research centre will receive full funding compared to the amount requested in the applications. The reason is that we wanted to give more constellations the opportunity to develop their activities," says Malin Ideland and continues:
"Of course, it is a difficult task to compare different scientific fields and new and old research groupings. But our panel has been very competent in thinking strategically on behalf of the University and has extensive experience in assessing research quality."
