My research

Have you ever wondered why some medicines need to travel through your entire body to treat a problem in one specific place?

My research focuses on developing better ways to deliver medicines, with the aim of making treatments more effective, targeted and patient-friendly. I develop and study materials that can carry and release therapeutic molecules where they are needed. Instead of relying only on conventional ways of administering medicines, such as tablets or injections, I investigate alternative approaches, particularly formulations that can be applied directly to the body's surfaces, such as the skin and other biological barriers.

From 2024 to 2026, I worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Biobarriers – Health, Disorders and Healing project, where I investigated biodegradable carbohydra-based formulations. Since September 2026, I have been leading the ATACH project (Advancing Topical Approaches using Hydrogels for Peptide Delivery in Wound Healing), funded by the Knowledge Foundation. In collaboration with industrial partners, I investigate hydrogel-based delivery systems for topical peptide therapeutics. In this project, we combine formulation science, materials characterization and biological models to understand how the composition and structure of a formulation influence its performance.

I also contribute to teaching and student supervision in pharmaceutical and biomedical sciences, and I enjoy connecting fundamental research with practical pharmaceutical and healthcare applications.
