Claes Wickström, senior lecturer. Claes Wickström's work focuses on oral microbiology, with particular interest in salivary mucins (MUC5B, MUC7), biofilms, and interactions between salivary proteins, dental materials and the oral microbiome. He studies the oral biofilm’s enzymatic activity, metabolic pathways and how microbial populations adapt to niches in the oral cavity. His aims are to elucidate mechanisms of biofilm formation and to contribute to strategies for modulating the microbiome to improve oral health. He is currently involved in projects investigating interactions between dental materials, salivary proteins and oral streptococci. He is a member of the Biofilms Research Centre for Biointerfaces (BRCB) at Malmö University and active in the profile platform Advancing Oral Health at MAU.
