Presentation
Erin Cory is a media scholar, writer, and educator whose work explores migration, urban life, and everyday artistic practice across transnational contexts. A Senior Lecturer in Media and Communication Studies and Co-Director of Medea Lab, she examines how tattooing, sound, storytelling, and other embodied forms shape belonging, memory, and encounter. Her work combines sensory ethnography with collaborative and arts-based methods to develop less extractive ways of producing knowledge.
Her Swedish Research Council project, Tattoo Art in Postmigration Contexts (2026–2029), investigates tattoo studios as social, aesthetic, and political spaces in European cities. She is also collaborating with Laleh Foroughanfar on the Crafoord Foundation-funded project Sound Politics in the Postmigratory City, which explores sound, migration, and urban life in Malmö. Spanning Scandinavia, Lebanon, East Africa, and the US–Mexico border region, Cory’s research has also been supported by Riksbankens Jubileumsfond and Svenska Institutet, and has developed in close collaboration with artists, refugee-led initiatives, cultural organisations, and community groups.
