Project description

In this project, we investigate how digitalization and digital transformation are reshaping the embedded systems industry, and how these developments are changing the business landscapes and software ecosystems in which companies operate. Our aim is to support companies in accelerating their digital transformation journey and in realizing the full strategic and operational value of digitalization.

A particular focus of the project is the rise of GenAI and Agentic AI and their impact on industrial practice. We study how these technologies are redefining products, services, and development processes, and how new ecosystem actors and new ways of working are disrupting established business models and industry structures. In parallel, we examine data-sharing practices, which are becoming increasingly important for digital markets, ecosystem collaboration, and the development of new digital services. Together, these perspectives help us understand how companies can navigate and shape the transition toward more intelligent, connected, and continuously evolving digital systems.

As our overall focus in this project, we seek to provide companies with strategic guidance for how to transition towards digital and AI-first companies and maximize the benefits of digitalization. This involves maintaining existing ecosystem engagement models and traditional business models while at the same time adopting new ecosystem engagement models and new digital business models. Also, it involves adopting novel practices and complying to EU regulations.
