Helena Holmström Olsson is a professor at the Department of Computer Science and Media Technology at Malmö University. She got her PhD at the University of Gothenburg in 2004, and has since then been active at a number of Swedish and international universities.

Her research is conducted a large research initiative called Software Center. Software Center is a collaboration between 14 companies in the embedded systems domain (Ericsson, Volvo Cars, AB Volvo, SAAB, Tetra Pak, Axis Communications, Grundfos, BOSCH, Siemens, Wärtsilä, Qamqom, CEVT Jeppesen (Boeing and Scania) and five Swedish universities (Göteborgs Universitet, Chalmers, Malmö University, Linköping University and Mälardalen University). Her research is conducted within the area of software engineering and focuses primarily on data-driven development, software and business ecosystems and AI engineering.

In addition to her research in Software Center, Helena is involved in WASP (Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program) as a senior researcher and supervisor and especially in the area of automated experimentation in large-scale software systems. Finally, she is involved in a Vinnova project on AI, machine learning and deep learning and with a special interest in embedded AI and data management.

Helena is a member of the Malmö University board and also a member of the faculty board for the faculty of Technology and Society.
