In the 1850s and 1860s, several textile factories were built in Malmö on land that had been cleared when the old fortifications were demolished and the canals were straightened. The first factories were a cotton spinning mill and a cotton weaving mill, built after English models. However, the largest factory, founded in 1866, was a woolen factory (MYA). These three factories were very important for the industrial environment in Malmö. Lars Berggren, professor emeritus of Labor History.
