Please join us for another FUTURES Work-in-progress seminar in which Erin Cory (School of Arts and Communication) who will introduce her new VR-funded research project on tattoo art in contemporary European postmigration contexts. The project, set to begin in September 2026, looks at tattoo studios as everyday spaces where people from different backgrounds meet, collaborate, and negotiate questions of belonging, identity, and community. Rather than focusing on traditional art institutions or formal integration programs, it turns to tattooing as a hands-on, collaborative practice that is already part of how people live and make meaning together. Based on planned fieldwork in tattoo studios in four European cities, the project explores how these spaces reflect the realities of postmigrant societies, where migration is an ordinary part of everyday life. The presentation will walk through the project’s main ideas, research questions, and methods, and open up a conversation about what tattooing can tell us about art, migration, and social change.

Don’t miss this chance to her get a glimpse of what she is plotting in Malmö, Copenhagen, Berlin and Madrid in the coming years, and maybe even throw in your two cents to help shape her project.
