Drug markets and violence – on the dearth of data and possible ways forward

Organised drug trafficking is one of the biggest sources of income for criminal networks – but how does it actually work? Kim Møller, professor of criminology at Malmö University, researches the extent of trafficking, its economic significance and how it is affected by legislation and law enforcement.

Currently, he is researching this thorugh analysing court cases, encrypted chats and registers linked to organised crime. By doing so, he hopes to show how distribution works despite the products being illegal. But this is a broader problem of social science inquiry into activities of hidden populations.

The lecture will give us a better understanding of different data sources on how serious crimes are committed and what is needed to limit the harmful effects.

Welcome to Kim Møller's inaugural lecture as professor! The lecture will be held in English.

Breakfast will be served.
