Verdis Requiem

At the crossroads between opera and sacred music, Giuseppe Verdi transforms the traditional requiem into not only a moving musical journey filled with hope and comfort, but also one with intense drama and gravitas.

The air trembles with fury as more than one hundred voices and a full symphony orchestra fill the hall in the famous opening Dies Irae. Moments later, the movements Agnus Dei and Lux Aeterna offer serenity and light. Verdi’s Requiem gives voice to life’s great farewell, where emotions move between darkness and light, drama and stillness.

This concert is a collaboration between St. John’s Parish and Malmö University. The work is performed by the Malmö Academic Choir and Orchestra, together with St. John’s Chamber Choir and Johanneskören, conducted by Christian Schultze.
