Projektbeskrivning
Although Sweden offers healthcare services for women who have undergone female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C), there are significant knowledge gaps regarding how women themselves experience this care and what their healthcare needs are. In addition, there is a lack of research on how healthcare professionals perceive and approach treatments related to experiences of FGM/C.
The aim of this study is to gain a deeper understanding of the healthcare needs of women who have undergone FGM/C, and to analyze attitudes among both affected women and healthcare professionals. The study also examines whether there is an association between attitudes toward FGM/C-related healthcare and support for the continuation of the practice.
The project includes interviews with women and healthcare professionals, as well as a questionnaire focusing on healthcare experiences, treatment, and trust in healthcare services. The project explores whether these factors not only affect health outcomes but may also contribute to the prevention of the practice. The project is interdisciplinary, involving researchers from medicine and gender studies, social work and sexology, and public health.
