About the project
The research project is an international quantitative survey on sexual experiences.
Aim
The aim is to increase knowledge about individuals’ experiences, perceptions and expectations related to sexuality and sexual activities in a global perspective. The project is unique in that it is being conducted as a survey in over 30 countries: including Sweden, the UK, Australia, Brazil, Ghana, Mexico, China, India, Japan, Nigeria, South Africa, France, Germany, Ukraine and the USA. Dr. Verena Klein from the University of Southampton in the UK is leading the project, and researchers from each country are responsible for the study in their country. We intend to do a comparative analysis between the different countries.
Participants sought for the survey study
We are targeting people over the age of 18 who are sexually active. In this study, sexually active means sexual activity with another person. This can be with a regular partner or casual/sexual partners. In this study, sexual activities include, for example, sexual intercourse, oral sex and other forms of sexual intercourse. Note that masturbation does not count as being sexually active in this study.
Anonymity and confidentiality
Participation in the study is anonymous and no data can be linked to the participants, and the collected data will be treated so that unauthorised persons cannot access it. All information is treated confidentially and will only be used by an international research team where researchers from Malmö University represent the Swedish part. The research team is responsible for handling collected material following applicable data protection legislation, including the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) where applicable, and relevant national laws in the participating countries. Participation is voluntary and participants may withdraw from the study at any time.
Result
The study's results may be used as a basis for professional advice and support in the field of sexual health. By collecting data from different cultures and societies, the project aims to provide a broader understanding of the diversity and variations of sexuality worldwide.
