Research on the field of disability and rehabilitation (FURE) brings together a group of researchers and doctoral students at the Department of Social Work who study disability in relation to social vulnerability, social justice, living conditions and norms.

Disability Research

The research includes a broad view of physical, mental and cognitive disabilities, with a focus on social exclusion and barriers to participation. Obstacles to participation are studied both on the basis of a lack of opportunities for participation on equal terms and on the basis of societal conditions for citizenship and equal health. An important task in the research group's research is to analyse the interaction between individuals and society and to shed light on issues of disability and rehabilitation from several different perspectives.

Paperserien Occasional Papers in Disability & Rehabilitation

The research group publishes the Occasional Papers in Disability & Rehabilitation series. The purpose of the series is to present and discuss both ongoing research and completed projects in the field of disability and rehabilitation (provided that the submitted manuscripts have not been published previously). Contributions are welcome from a wide range of scientific disciplines and theoretical perspectives. Please contact the editor for more information.

Submitted manuscripts are first assessed by the editor. One or two reviewers/commentators are then appointed, after which an open seminar is arranged. After the seminar, the author(s) are given the opportunity to make minor changes before publication. The author(s) are responsible for the content of each paper.

Collaboration

The research group actively collaborates at local, national and international levels. Through partnerships with universities, government agencies, municipalities and civil society, we contribute research-based knowledge to policy development, professional practice and socially relevant investigations.

About our collaboration and international networks

  • Investigative assignments and research reviews on behalf of authorities, regions, municipalities and research councils.
  • Collaboration with civil society and non-profit organisations.
  • Research exchanges with, among others, UCL (Denmark) and NTNU (Norway).
  • Participation in research councils and the Nordic Network of Disability Research, host of the 19th NNDR Research Conference 2029.
  • The environment has been an active host research environment for international doctoral students.
