  • Two-year Master's Programme in Dental Science
  • Three-year Master's Programme in Dental Science, with advanced clinical training

The programme

The purpose of the Master's Programme in Dental Science is to provide students with in-depth knowledge within the main field of dentistry with a particular focus on the chosen dental discipline or subarea, as well as scientific knowledge and skills. The programme’s main focus is on theory and preparing students to undertake research with subject knowledge and scientific training.

Educational goals

After finishing the programme, the student should be able to critically assess scientific literature; conduct a focused literature review; identify a research question and plan, implement and evaluate a scientific project within the subject under supervision; present the study results to the scientific community nationally and/or internationally; and prepare a written thesis and ideally also a manuscript draft for publication in a peer-reviewed scientific journal.

After completion the graduate will be awarded the degree of Master of Science with a major in Dental Science. Both programmes qualify students for further research studies, such as doctoral (PhD) studies at the faculty.

Specialisations

The two-year programme is offered in Periodontology, Prosthodontics, Endodontics, Orofacial Pain and Dysfunction (TMD), Material Science and Technology, Cariology, Oral Biology, Oral Pathology, Orthodontics, Pedodontics, Oral Surgery and Implantology.

The full three-year programme encompasses the above-mentioned master’s programme and includes advanced clinical training in a chosen discipline such as Periodontology, Prosthodontics, Endodontics, Orofacial Pain and Dysfunction (TMD) and Implantology.

Future prospects

Clinical training

In-depth subject knowledge is obtained through peer-learning, seminars, preclinical training and participation in the department’s regular activities. The clinical element within the framework of the master’s degree is thus limited in the two-year programme. In the three-year programme the final year provides advanced clinically focused training.
