Admissions: Malmö University reaches second highest figure ever

Almost 18,000 admissions to Malmö University for the autumn semester.
Admission figures for the autumn term are in: Malmö University has admitted almost 18,000 students, the second highest number ever. Among the new admissions are those for the new Master’s of Science in Engineering programme, which has already filled its places in the first selection.
For several years, the number of admissions to Malmö University has increased. This year, as in the rest of the country, there is a slight decline compared to the record year set last year. One explanation for this is that the number of programmes to apply for has decreased compared to last year: from 421 to 407 options.
Many programmes continue to attract a high number of applicants.
"The fact that we have reached our second highest admission figure ever, despite a slightly reduced range of programmes, shows that Malmö University continues to be an attractive choice. It is also extremely gratifying to see that our new Master of Science in Engineering programme has got off to such a strong start. The programme is an important contribution to the government's STEM strategy and to the supply of skills in the field," says Andreas Jacobsson, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education and Digitalisation.
More admissions to education in digital format
The number of admissions to campus-based programmes has decreased, while the number of admissions to distance learning programmes has increased slightly.
“We see an increasing interest in programmes that are not tied to campus, and it is therefore gratifying that we can offer more opportunities where our faculties have further developed educational options in digital format,’ says Jacobsson.
At a national level, just over 316,000 people have been admitted to higher education programmes this autumn, which is a decrease of 2.3 per cent compared to autumn 2024. The corresponding figure at Malmö University is 3.1 per cent.
The admission figures will now be further analysed. The second selection will be published on 24 July, which may affect the final number of admissions.
