Project description
Respect for the unique characteristics of each patient is fundamental to good healthcare. When patients are treated with respect, their sense of dignity and participation is strengthened. An effective way to integrate the patient's perspective is through surveys with patient-reported measures, which make their experiences visible and contribute to improvement efforts and research. Colonoscopy is a common but often unpleasant procedure, which can lead to patients declining treatment and thus risking their health.
To better understand patients' experiences, a survey has been developed in collaboration with patients and staff as part of a doctoral project. The questions have been tested and proven to be of good quality, making the survey ready for clinical use. The project is now in its next phase: developing a user-friendly interface where the results are automatically reported in a clinically relevant way. This will help healthcare staff understand patients' perspectives, identify areas for improvement and thus strengthen care during colonoscopy.
The next step in the project is to move from measuring to coproducing. Patients' experiences will then become not just collected data, but a direct driver for improvement. Through coproduction workshops where patients and healthcare staff together identify and prioritise areas for improvement, we can develop solutions that are both clinically relevant and meaningful to patients. This strengthens patient participation while improving the quality and person-centredness of care.
