About the project
My PhD project explores children's well-being, with a particular focus on children aged 9–12 living in socioeconomically disadvantaged areas and with a migration background. It is a participatory project in which the children are our young co-researchers. We conduct fieldwork in different areas of Malmö, working together with the children on their terms and from their perspectives.
Aim
The aim of the project is to understand the key factors that contribute to children's well-being. We take a strengths-based approach, which means we focus on protective and health-promoting factors rather than risks. The goal is to identify the positive aspects of children’s lives that should be reinforced to ensure the best possible conditions for their well-being. As part of the project, we are also developing a questionnaire together with the children. They participate in creating the questions and decide which areas are important to explore in order to understand children's well-being. The questionnaire will therefore be socioculturally adapted and take into account aspects often overlooked in existing instruments.
Results
The hope is that the results of the project can inform the design of future efforts to promote children's well-being, guided by children's own voices and lived experiences.
