About the project
Diabetes is among the most prevalent chronic diseases and is associated with adverse effects on oral health, including an increased risk of periodontitis. However, the impact on endodontic infections and their treatment is unclear. This nationwide register-based study investigates the outcome of root canal treatment among patients with diabetes and patients without diabetes. Factors associated with treatment failure will be identified. This project may inform the development of guidelines for dental care, and targeted strategies can be developed to improve oral health in this patient group if diabetes is found to be associated with increased treatment failure.
