New doctors

The doctor's hat is for those with the Swedish degree titles Doktorsexamen i medicinsk vetenskap, Odontologie doktorsexamen or Teknologie doktorsexamen.

To be able to order a doctor's hat, you must have passed your public defense, have completed all courses, and have submitted your application for a degree certificate to the Degree Office by 30 June at the latest.

When ordering, please book an appointment to take your measurements. If you do not have the opportunity to come to Hattmakeriet for measurements, you can measure yourself with a tape measure. Place the bottom edge of the tape measure on the highest point of the eyebrows (just above the ear) and backwards over the pointiest part of the back of the head so that the tape measure lies in a horizontal line around the head. State the measurement and your head shape (round, oval) to Hattmakeriet.

Hat badge

All doctor's hats have a hat badge mounted on the front of the hat with the faculty's symbol. The hat badge is ordered along with the doctor's hat.

The following hat badges can be ordered:

• Odontologie doktor: A rod encircled by a serpent in a laurel wreath. 
• Doktor i medicinsk vetenskap: Oak leaves and laurel in a frame with a rod encircled by blue serpent in the centre. 
• Teknologie doktor: Triangle surrounded by a circle with the text MAU in the lower part of the circle. 

You are responsible for paying for and collecting your hat from the hat maker and taking it with you to the ceremony. You hand in your hat at the insignia desk at Malmö Live (2 floor).   

Borrowing a hat

You are expected to organise your own hat if you are not interested in buying your own, for example by borrowing from a colleague who has previously been promoted. If you have problems organising a hat, please contact your faculty representative.

The hat at the annual academic ceremony

You are responsible for paying for and collecting your hat from the hat maker and bringing it with you to the annual academic ceremony. You hand in your hat at the insignia desk at Malmö Live (floor 2).  

The laurel wreath is for those with the Swedish degree title Filosofie doktor. To be able to order a laurel wreath, you must have passed your public defense, have completed all courses, and have submitted your application for a degree certificate to the Degree Office by 30 June at the latest.

Ordering your laurel wreath

You order your laurel wreath via email: mail@blomsterpigan.se . Mark the email by writing "Laurel wreath 2026" in the subject line of the email.

In the email provide:

• your head measurement (the head measurement is measured around the hairline at the front, above the ears and under the nape at the back)
• your full name
• the email address to which you want the invoice to be sent
• telephone number

Cost and delivery

The laurel wreath costs SEK 595. The invoice is sent shortly after delivery of the wreath, to the email address you provided when ordering. The invoice shall be paid before delivery.

The wreath is delivered by Blomsterpigan to Malmö Live on the day of the ceremony.

Deadline for ordering is 18 September 2026.

Doctoral ring in red or white gold

The doctoral ring in red or white gold is optional for all future doctors. If you have a doctorate in odontology, you can also choose to order a gold ring special to the Faculty of Odontology.

Cost

The price of a ring varies depending on the current commodity price of gold as well as the size of the ring. The cost is between SEK 14,100 and 19,200. The full amount is paid at the time of ordering, and for engraving there is an additional charge of SEK 500. Note: Prices are valid as of 6 February 2026. We reserve the right to change prices.

Order your gold ring

Place your order between 1 June and 15 September 2026. You order your ring at the goldsmith Dragan Simic, Västra Mårtensgatan 11, Lund. They will take your measurements. Contact Dragan Simic to make an appointment: info@simic.se. 

If you would like your ring to be engraved, state this in your order. State your First name Surname + date of conferment ceremony. Please note: the date of conferment ceremony is the date of the Annual Academic Ceremony, not your defense date.

The last day to order is 15 September.

Delivery

The ring will be delivered directly to you no later than 15 October. Bring your ring to Malmö Live (2 floor) when you register and submit your insignia.

Doctoral ring in Humanium Metal by IM

Malmö University is the first in the world to use the peace metal Humanium Metal in doctoral rings. The doctoral ring in Humanium Metal is optional for all future doctors. The material, Humanium Metal, created by the humanitarian organisation IM (Individuell Människohjälp), consists of recycled metal from illegal handguns that have been seized and collected in Central America, Africa and the United States. The material contains nickel.

Cost
The price is SEK 1500 per ring including engraving. The engraved text is "First name Last name 16/10 – 26". The invoice will be sent shortly after ordering the ring to the email address you provided when ordering.

Terms of payment: 14 days.

Order your ring in peace metal

You order your ring via email: elvis.svetlicic@3dmetprint.se. Mark the email by writing "Doctor’s ring 2026" in the subject line of the email.

In the email, provide:

• First name and last name
• Complete adress
• The email address you want the invoice to be sent to
• Telephone number
• Your ring size. The measurement refers to the ring finger of your left hand.

Sample rings are available at the reception in Niagara to help you find your correct size. If you are not able to try the sample rings, you may take ring measurements at a local goldsmith. The ring size is given as the inner diameter specified in whole millimetres (the rings are not available in 0.5 mm intervals).

Deadline for ordering is 28 August 2026.

Delivery

The ring will be ready for pickup at the reception in Niagara by 8 October at the latest. You hand in your ring at the insignia desk at Malmö Live (2 floor).
