Mindfulness in Physical Activity: Between Mental Health and the Natural Body

Tuesday 10 September, 11:30 - 13:00
Room D131, Orkanen, Nordenskiöldsgatan 10

Mindfulness has become a more popular concept in the fitness industry. Often connected with such activities as yoga and tai chi, mind-body activities are now also incorporated within other group fitness modalities. In this talk, Pirkko Markula will connect mindfulness to the psychological construct of self-compassion and to the principles of somatic training to explore how it operates in a socio-cultural context of fitness.
