Abstract

What counts? What is valuable? And by what measures? These are questions that every scholar confronts while seeking recognition and rewards. But how are they experienced and dealt with by those who are currently growing into academia?

Based on findings from his dissertation, Jonatan Nästesjö will talk about the interplay between valuation and academic socialization at the postdoc level. This includes how institutional structures and performance measures provide junior scholars with increasingly narrow scripts for success and worth, but also how these scripts are negotiated in the course of action.
