The University Board has proposed the nomination of Professor Mia Rönnmar for the position of Vice-Chancellor with the final decision on the appointment will be made by the Government.

The nominated candidate, Mia Rönnmar, currently holds the position of professor of civil law at Lund University's Faculty of Law, where she also served as Dean from 2015 to 2020. As a researcher and teacher, she has extended her expertise as a visiting scholar at the London School of Economics, the European University Institute, and Sydney Law School. Additionally, she has served as the editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Comparative Labour Law and Industrial Relations.

“Malmö University appeals to me for various reasons, not least because it's an urban university undergoing a dynamic change process. I'm impressed by the University's emphasis on border-crossing and socially relevant education and research, innovative collaboration, diversity and inclusion, and global engagement,” Mia Rönnmar says.

The other final candidates were Anders Kottorp, dean at the Faculty of Health and Society, and Niklas Ammert, pro-vice-chancellor at Linnaeus University.

According to the decision documentation, the advisory group's proposal is based on a comprehensive evaluation of the three final candidates. The process included in-depth interviews, reference checks, consultative assembly hearings, and meetings with the University's trade union organisations.

Throughout the recruitment process, the advisory group, in collaboration with the appointed recruitment consultant, Ann-Sofie Rosenberg, received applications and nominations for candidates, while simultaneously searching for potential candidates. In total, seven candidates were interviewed. Some of them eventually chose not to submit a formal application for the position.

The University Board invited three candidates to participate in hearings with a consultative assembly and interviews with union representatives. A total of 24 teachers, eight students, and eight other staff members attended the hearings.

Following the official nomination by the University Board, the Government will make the final decision on the appointment of the new Vice-Chancellor.
