About the project
Both in Sweden and internationally, the number of people aged 65 and older is expected to increase. An increased elderly population contributes to a rise in the prevalence of common challenges among older persons. Falls, poor oral health, malnutrition, and pressure ulcers are common among older persons and as the number of older persons is expected to increase, these health risks will also rise. These risks will weaken the quality of life for older persons. Next of kin are eager to maintain a close relationship with their family members. They want close cooperation with healthcare professionals and continuous feedback regarding older persons' care. This project aims to generate knowledge of how older persons in nursing homes and their next of kin can co-design an intervention to prevent falls, malnutrition, poor oral health and pressure ulcers and test and evaluate the intervention.
