About the project
International, as well as Swedish research on police methods focusing on intimate partner violence (IPV), has mainly concerned intervention activities and investigative activities. However, research on methods aiming at preventing IPV is scarce. Intimate Partner Violence Intervention (IPVI) is a preventive strategy in which authorities and the local community collaborate to stop domestic violence. The strategy combine the message of intolerance of IPV and the consequences of continued offending with an offer of support and help to change destructive behaviours. Beyond the focus on perpetrators, IPVI includes a victim outreach structure. The strategy is based on focused deterrence, shifting focus and responsibility from the victim to the perpetrator.
In the present project, the process and the impact of IPVI in Malmö will be evaluated in the longer term. The overall aim is to evaluate the implementation of the strategy in a Swedish context.
