About the project
Since 2022, the knowledge area Sexuality, Consent and Relationships will be integrated into all types of schools. How this is implemented in adapted schooling is unexplored. Pupils with intellectual disabilities have limited knowledge about sexuality, while at the same time, they are at risk of sexual risk. The heterogeneity of the group, conflicting sexual norms, and social media are challenges in teaching.
Aim
In collaboration between Malmö University and RFSU, the project aims to create in-depth knowledge about experiences of subject-integrated teaching among staff in adapted schooling, which can be used in the development of continuing education. Approximately 15-20 staff interviews are conducted at schools in Malmö. The data is analyzed thematically and the theory of sexual scripts is used as a frame of reference. In Step 2, focus group interviews are conducted with school staff and interviews with informants from RFSU. The project is important for the education of teachers, sexologists and nurses at Malmö University and aims to strengthen sexual health among young people with intellectual disabilities. The project is linked to the Global and Glocal Health Research Platform.
