About the project
Apologizing was presented as an essential part of the complaint-handling process in healthcare in 2018. Apologizing is important because validation can contribute to patients' acceptance of an adverse event when followed by a proper explanation or a sincere apology. However, experiences from Apology laws in the US have shown that the legal handling of medical injuries can lead to reluctance among healthcare professionals to apologize when something goes wrong. This research project investigates how healthcare professionals in the field of pediatric medicine at Skåne University Hospital in Region Skåne relate to the validation of patients' and their relatives' experiences.
