Project description
Female dentists perform fewer implant treatments than male dentists, according to a report by the National Board of Health and Welfare. This means that patients who have lost teeth do not always receive the most appropriate treatment, and dental care does not meet the requirement to be on equal terms for the entire population.
To improve the opportunities for patients to receive equal dental care, this study will investigate why the gender differences exist between dentists. Data will be collected through interviews with female and male dentists. The results of the study contribute to knowledge about the importance of gender norms in dentists' work and can form the basis for gender equality work in dentistry to reduce gender differences between dentists' treatments. The results may also have validity for care outside dentistry.
