Dewey, Existential Uncertainty and Non-Affirmative Educational Theory
Open guest lecture with Prof. Andrea English, University of Edinburgh.
Summary
In this talk, Andrea will discuss Dewey’s notion of the teacher in democratic education. In particular, she focusses on the teacher’s role in supporting productive uncertainty in learning. She will draw on a case of teacher listening in a classroom to illustrate what such teaching looks like in practice. In this concept, she connects Dewey’s thinking about the nature of teaching to a long-standing tradition of non-affirmative educational theory.
