Seminar part of the Global politics seminar and the Migration seminar

The sudden and unforeseen fall of Assad’s regime on December 8 has profoundly impacted Syria and the international landscape, raising pressing questions about the future of the nation. At the forefront of these concerns is Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the group responsible for leading the charge that resulted in Assad’s downfall.

Speculations about the future governance

With its leader now acting as the interim president and having put a hold on the constitution and parliament for three months, many are speculating about the future governance of Syria under HTS. Given the group’s extremist history and previous affiliations with al-Qaeda and ISIS, there is considerable speculation about how its ideological perspectives will influence its policies toward Syrian minorities, women, and interactions with regional and global entities. This seminar aims to explore these critical issues and more.
