I work as a senior lecturer in the didactics of mathematics. This means that I both teach and conduct research in my position.

In my research, I am interested in what determines whether students learn or do not learn a specific content in teaching. My research interest focuses on the relationship between learning and teaching, "learning study," and mathematics education.

In my dissertation study, I conducted three learning studies with different mathematical content. It is based on a research project 'The Pedagogy of Learning' (2002–2006). The project conducted various learning studies with teachers in primary schools.

Learning study is a collaboration between teachers and researchers where they try to design lessons to improve students' learning of a particular skill, for example, understanding the equals sign. The analysis of the different learning studies showed that certain aspects of the content were critical for students' learning.
