Bahtijar Vogel is an Associate Professor (docent), Acting Head of the Department, and Unit Head in the Computer Science and Media Technology at the Faculty of Technology and Society, Malmö University. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from Linnaeus University. His research focuses on software engineering, architecture, and the Internet of Things (IoT), where he develops the concept of an open architecture for deploying flexible, evolvable, and usable systems in various application domains and contexts, particularly in dynamic operating conditions and environments. With open architectures, his research promotes openness in terms of open source components, open data standards, and open innovation.

Vogel is an active member of the Internet of Things and People Research Centre (IoTaP) at Malmö University.

Dr. Vogel teaches within the Applied Data Science master's program. Currently, he is the course responsible for "Data and Society" and "Research Methods of Computer Science and Fundamental Computational Theory" courses. Additionally, he is responsible for the PhD-level course in the Internet of Things and People Seminar Series. His teaching engagements also cover areas such as web and mobile development, cross-platform development using JavaScript, testing web and mobile applications, agile development practices, architectures, and software design, among others. Furthermore, Dr. Vogel has worked in the industry as an IT architect consultant, software engineer, and software developer for a couple of years.
