About the project
There is overwhelming evidence that smoked tobacco increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer, chronic respiratory disease, diabetes and premature death. The health effects of smokeless and other emerging forms of tobacco use are less known. With the high prevalence of snus use and remarkably strong health registry infrastructure, Sweden holds unique possibilities for studying the health effects of snus use in relation to smoked tobacco, with possible implications also for other forms of smokeless tobacco products. The primary aim of this research project is to construct a national database with information on tobacco exposure based on information retrieved from the Swedish Public Dental Service, to study the health effects of tobacco exposure.
