Project description

Experience of violence among men is a widespread problem in society and research shows that there is an association between exposure to violence during the life course and mental ill health. Violence as a cause of illness and disease needs to be investigated by the health service in order for good care to be offered on equal terms. Guidelines state that questions about exposure to violence should be asked routinely as soon as there is a suspicion of violence.

In order to be able to identify these people and be able to offer adequate care and nursing, we need more knowledge about this group. The overall aim of the dissertation is to chart and illuminate life events and disclosure of abuse as well as mental ill health during the life course, among men in general psychiatric- and addiction care. By highlighting this, the understanding of how these experiences affect their mental health and how psychiatric nursing for abused men in psychiatric care can be developed.
